Duplex Dine&Dance Prague
To most people Duplex is primarily known as a nightclub. There are many events taking place especially during high season and you can party and spend nights out on two floors and four bars. It is designed as a glass cube placed on top of a building in Wenceslas Square and offers a panoramic view of the city. This review, however, doesn’t refer to the club itself but to the restaurant. If you visit by day it’s a regular restaurant and I strongly advise you do so because the food there is amazing. The bottom entrance does make you feel like entering a fancy nightclub but as soon as you leave the elevator you will be surprised by how elegant and well designed the restaurant looks. The stunning rooftop terrace and views over Wenceslas Square are (obviously) best enjoyed by day and even if you choose to sit inside during the colder months, the glass windows will flood the modern interior with light so that you might even be able to catch some sun rays.
There are a lot of concepts where the combo of a club and a restaurant doesn’t quite work, the reason might be because the focus is not too much on food or people who go to the club are not as much interested in having dinner first or the food is simply not good enough. Honestly, a nightclub wouldn’t be my first choice when I’m looking for a decent dinner, but I am taught better, on this one at least. I’ve visited Duplex many times now and brought along many friends who I think might have been sceptical first, but they all agree that the food and drinks (!!!) are absolutely great and it has become a habit for us to visit at least once whenever we’re in town.
As far as the menu is concerned, they serve modern Asian fusion cuisine that combines Mediterranean classics with Asian-inspired spices and ingredients. You can for instance choose between carpaccio, bresaola, steaks, risottos and pasta, all of them spiced up with a special Asian umami touch…(yeah I like that). Uniting both worlds turns out is a great idea especially because the two them are allegedly one of the best cuisines in the world. I can’t even express how intrigued I am with the food here and really recommend you try for yourself when you visit Prague and want to try something different local Bohemian cuisine. Meanwhile you can take a look at some of what I had and be jealous.
Some of my favorites:
The prices are certainly not the cheapest if you compare with local Czech eateries, but it’s still good value money for what you get. We always order the fanciest drinks, a bottle of wine, starters and desserts and our bill amounts to under 40€ per person. As a goodie you’re granted free access to the club when you eat at the restaurant (otherwise about 15€, I don’t quite remember) so if you want you can take a look at the upper floor dance floor and take a drink or shake it all off.
